Our Story

21years ago, Connie Sin Chan Tang opened a modest handbags and accessories shop at Yonge and Dundas in the heart of Toronto. At the age of 10, her daughter Alycia was by her side at trade shows and at the store learning how to sell alongside her mom. After several years of business, Connie officially opened a boutique at Dundas and Spadina and later on, Richmond Hill and Major Mackenzie.Connie’s boutique was one of the first specialty boutiques to carry luxe leather bags from Spain and Italy and then, emerging brands. Alycia later spent 3 years working her way through York University as a sales representative and honing her obsession with names like Claudia Ciuti and Patrick Cox at the Toronto Eaton Centre. Forward to 2004, after several years of travels including 3 years spent in Japan, Alycia has teamed up with her Japanese friend N. Takeda to re-launch her family’s company.

The Company

The name Liucia – Ryucia in Japanese – is a synthesis of Alycia’s name and her mother’s name. Design is a fusion of East meets West within an avante-garde parade of textures, cuts and shapes – always with a suggestion of the feminine.

“The inherent contradictions between the two are what inspire us
to play with textiles, colours and shapes while always thinking about the
exactitude and flawlessness of Japanese philosophy.”
